The Jokerman

Bob Dylan explains why he doesn't like new music technology. It's hilarious. Not intentionally though.

Don't get me wrong, I love Bob Dylan, but every muscian has to realise that his new stuff just isn't as good as his old stuff.

  • Oh dear.

Bob Dylan, once one of the greatest musicians around, has become a grumpy old man in an rocking chair whining about yesteryear.

I can't believe someone like him just doesn't get it. I mean cmon - "I don't know anybody who's made a record that sounds decent in the past 20 years, really," - obviously absolute bollix. Most of my favourite music comes from the past 20 years. Yes, there's been a lot of crap too, but there was a lot of crap in Dylan's time as well. Just because he doesn't like more recent music doesn't make it bad. Sigh. My respect for Dylan has dropped immensely.

  • Grumpy maybe, but still great.

I'm still praying for his second Christian phase to arrive. In fact I'd die a happy man to hear him live singing "Gotta Serve Somebody", just once ...

You may be a preacher with your spiritual pride,
You may be a city councilman taking bribes on the side,
You may be workin' in a barbershop, you may know how to cut hair,
You may be somebody's mistress, may be somebody's heir,

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody. ...
